My daughter has the same passionate love of McDonald’s. Last week we went to an awesome, funky, kid-friendly breakfast cafe with a special children’s area full of books and toys, and she had a mountain of pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, and it was all-in-all a delightful dining out experience. As I buckled her into her car seat, I asked her if she wanted to go there again. “No. I want to go to McDonald’s.” Arrgh!

Interestingly, if you read the book “Fast Food Nation,” McD’s is specifically calculated in every way to appeal to kids, knowing that if you catch ’em young, they’ll be loyal for life. One McD’s exec was even quoted as comparing the Golden Arches to “Mother’s breasts!” Freaky! And yet, even after reading that, I still take my kids there sometimes. It’s just too darn convenient.
