Mascara Woes

October 3, 2007

Today is backwards day at Works for Me Wednesday, and I am loving it! Instead of giving advice, we ask for some help from the great, amazing blogging community.

I wear contacts. I rub my eyes a lot. And I can’t find any eye makeup that can hold up to the challenge without flaking or smearing. I’ve even tried the impossible-to-remove Covergirl Great Lash Waterproof. During daily wear, it still leaves little raccoon marks under my eyes, when I try to get it off at night, the marks just get worse.

Are there any great mascaras out there that won’t leave me looking like a zombie?

I love Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie mascara. It’s the only kind I will use. The only time it ever smudges is if I forget to take it off at night — then I wake up with just a mild case of raccoon eyes. 🙂

This will probably sound crazy, but…I just had my eyelashes dyed last week. I have reasonably long lashes, so I mostly use mascara for the color. It lasts 4-6 weeks and costs around $20. It’s not the most pleasant experience, especially if you do have sensitive eyes. And price-wise, it costs more than non-designer mascara. I mainly had it done for my wedding, so that I won’t have to worry about raccoon-eyes!

I ALSO USE MAX FACTOR’S 2000 CALORIE. A TIP FOR REMOVING YOUR MAKEUP. BUY A BOTTLE OF MINERAL OIL, IT’S FOUND IN THE LAXATIVE DEPT. OF LIKE WALMART. THEN USE BABY WIPES. I USE THE ONES THAT ARE LIKE CLOTH. THIS WILL REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP COMPLETLY WITHOUT PULLING AND TUGGING AT THE GENTLE EYE AREA.

I use Mary Kay’s Ultimate Mascara. I also wear contacts & have to be careful with my mascara. I have no problem with smudging or eye irritation. I would definitely recommend Mary Kay’s Eye Make up remover. It’s an amazing product that easily removes all eye make up, plus it has several other uses too.
I began selling the products because I am so in love with them. I’d be glad to send samples!!

Depends on the look you’re going for.
Off and on I use the clear gel mascaras.
    Pros
They don’t have any color so no raccoon eyes.
Also, it’s gel and it washes right off.

    Cons
However, when it gets to evening they will start to flake.
Also, it only makes your lashes pop so if you have fair lashes, you won’t get the effect you’re looking for.

L’Oreal Voluminous mascara is the only one I ever use – make sure you get the waterproof one (it’s labeled “Hydrofuge”). I rub my eyes a lot too and this one stays put.

I really like the Loreal Volume Shocking mascara. I have seasonal allergies and even though I am using the non-waterproof right now, it doesn’t smear. It does come off, but it doesn’t smear.

When I wear the waterproof, it stays on all day.

    Hope this helps!
